Tihany-rév Public Passenger Harbour

We prepared the planning permission documentation for the renewal of the public passenger harbour at Tihany-rév as part of Balatoni Hajózási Zrt.’s development programme entitled “Experience, Adventure, Speed”. The design area covered almost 2,500 m² and included the harbour’s pier approach, piers and pier head.
The project involved the comprehensive renewal of the harbour. We replaced the outdated paving and site furnishings, restored the parapet wall, ensured barrier-free access and substantially increased the amount of green space.
Previously, the site contained no green space at all. Planted containers featuring cultivated varieties of native species, a new shrub layer and five avenue trees created 236 m² of green space, representing 9.45% of the design area. Roof gardens on the pier head provided additional biologically active surfaces. Eleven deteriorated, non-native trees were replaced by five semi-mature native trees.
The existing asphalt was replaced with small-format paving blocks and slabs with the appearance of natural stone. The new site furnishings included 15 benches, tree grilles, bicycle stands, waste bins and a custom-designed drinking fountain.
The most distinctive element of the renewal was the pier head. The bespoke cast-stone parapet wall was restored on the basis of a detailed survey, with concealed LED lighting installed behind it and new cast-stone paving laid alongside it. In the evening, the lighting traces the harbour’s edge facing the water.
