Public park
Millenáris Széllkapu Park
Millenáris Széllkapu Park was developed between 2017 and 2020 on a 3.5-hectare site formerly occupied by the Ganz factory and the Ministry of Industry, with a direct physical connection to Millenáris Park.
The project is the only brownfield rehabilitation of its kind in Budapest in recent years, and as such, it makes a significant contribution to the urban renewal of the area through its ecological services and improved air-quality indicators.
“The vast undulating green space is a true celebration of nature, with welcoming fruit trees, wildflower meadow-like plantings, and, of course, countless intimate places to sit or recline. One can sunbathe facing the southern light, stretch out, or simply sit on a bench and marvel at the surrounding buildings from angles no one has ever seen before.”
“What truly swept me off my feet was this immense and diverse act of green creation, and later its details, each offering fresh and unexpected moments of delight…. Whether it is called Széllkapu or Millenáris 2 does not really matter. It seems that even the smallest patch of green still remains part of the nation’s minimum consensus.”
Torma Tamás: “Bájépítészet” – Élet és Irodalom, Vol. LXIV, Issue 36, September 4, 2020.
A defining element of the park concept is the enclosing spatial edge formed by Margit Boulevard, Kis Rókus Street, and the built frontage toward Mammut II. This design solution creates an intimate, protected oasis shielded from disturbing environmental impacts, while also providing a substantial noise-reduction effect.
The tripartite concept of “forest – meadow – water” offers a wide range of usable green spaces and park elements for visitors, transforming one of the busiest parts of Buda into a place suitable for relaxation, recreation, and social encounters.
A distinctive structure within the park is the steel framework fitted with panoramic lifts, supporting 4,500 m² of vertical green surface. This landmark feature provides barrier-free access to Millenáris Park, while also offering space for cultural and leisure programmes and public events.
